HA-420 HondaJet Review

When we say the name Honda, the first thing that probably pops into your mind is their line of cars. After all, they have become virtually synonymous with consumer-friendly cars. However, it seems the company has started to explore new grounds since venturing into the F1 scene and garnering significant amounts of success in the competitive racing game. With the HA-420 HondaJet, it seems aviation is another frontier that they are looking to conquer.

Of course, this is hardly surprising considering the sheer potential that private aviation offers. If done right, this new venture can certainly provide immense returns and it seems Honda is more than aware of this fact.

As the company’s first attempt to get into the aviation game, there is certainly a lot of pressure for this jet to turn out well. This article takes a good look at Honda’s HA-420 HondaJet.

While it may come as a surprise to many, the decision for Honda to step into the fray of aviation has been a long time coming. Honda started its aircraft program as early as the mid-1980’s, as the company had already realized how much there is to gain by venturing into the sector.

Preliminary designs started to take shape by the next decade. However, it wasn’t until 2006 that Honda officially established its standalone Aircraft branch. Needless to say, with its own dedicated team at the helm, the design and development of the craft began to ramp up.  By early 2015, the FAA granted the company its license, essentially bringing us to this point in time.

The HA-420 has been a long time coming. Several years of work and passion has been condensed into this huge labor of love. Of course, all this history would be irrelevant if the jet itself is unable to meet the public’s expectations.

HA-420 Review

The question now is: how well does this jet perform? With that being said, let us delve into what sets the HA-420 apart from the rest of the luxury jet market.

By examining its interior design, one can immediately see that it makes use of a unique over-wing engine mount. This is a particular standout for us as it essentially frees up significant amounts of space in the cabin. This is opposed to the usual route that most companies take which favors cramming in as much reinforcements as possible.

Needless to say, this was no accident as this design choice was borne out of the company’s illustrious history of producing cars. If nothing else, this has certainly taught Honda the importance of maximizing every bit of space available so that passengers can enjoy the ride in the most comfortable way possible.

Aside from its focus on comfort, from luxury chairs to music gadgets, the HondaJet also delivers in terms of aerodynamics and speed. It seems its over-the-wing engine mount configuration serves more than one purpose as it has been shown to help the jet achieve a lower drag while also making it more efficient as it reaches higher speeds.

This article provides readers with an overview of the Honda HA-420. With all the time put into it, Honda has certainly come up with a luxury jet that is worthy of its name.
